FINDING PEDRO is the first produced play by the writing team of James Heatherly & Lisa Gay Gardner.

James and Lisa are each actors who have done lots of actor-y things all over the darned place. When they met in 2002, Lisa's dreaded "day job" was in a law firm, and one day James sat down next to her as a temp. Their mutual-admiration society sprung up almost instantly. Lisa knew the difference between "lay" and "lie" (James still doesn't), and James could use "compliment" or "complement" correctly (Lisa still can't). When they discovered their shared love of Douglas Adams, they started giggling together and haven't stopped since.

The professional partnership began a year later when they paired up to adapt and direct the Saturday Players production of "UNIDENTIFIED: The Farmington Armada," a series of monologues and scenes inspired by a real-life newspaper article from 1950 about UFOs sighted over a small New Mexico town. After that, the topic of "Wouldn't it be fun to write together?" popped up with increasing frequency.

Then one day, acupuncture changed everything.

Lisa was interviewed for Fox News as one her acupuncturist's "success stories." The news producer wanted footage of Lisa somewhere other the doctor's office, so Lisa invited the news crew to rehearsals for a music recital she was directing.

The news producer agreed. The soprano giving the recital, however, did not. With cameras waiting and nothing to film, Lisa asked James to help her stage a fake rehearsal. Moments before the cameraman arrived, Lisa asked what it was that she was pretending to direct and James said it was his show called FINDING PEDRO.

The cameraman arrived, unaware that James & Lisa were conjuring a play out of thin air. After the pseudo-rehearsal, they both realized that bouncing around in the chaos of James's mind was a very sizeable chunk of a very funny play. They decided then and there to write and produce the show together.

What began as a fake rehearsal of a non-existent play has snowballed into more than half a dozen projects in development. Currently, they're working on screenplays for both FINDING PEDRO and UNIDENTIFIED, have several comedy screenplays in various stages of completion, and in late 2005 will begin work on an official stage adaptation of Trey Parker's first film, "CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL," with new material, for an anticipated Fall 2006 off-Broadway run.

They currently reside in Manhattan -- James in Hell's Kitchen and Lisa in the East Village. Lisa's cat has one eye and James' cats eat paint.
